The Orlando Chronicle (“we”, “us”) publishes local news at theorlandochronicle.com. This policy describes what information we collect from readers, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you create a reader account, we collect your email address, name, and optional profile details through our sign-in provider, Clerk.
- Subscription and payment information. Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe shares with us only your subscription status and billing identifiers.
- Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe to our newsletter we store your email address and send-history. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Reader activity. We store comments, bookmarks, and reading preferences you create while signed in, and we count article views.
- Automatically collected data. Like most websites we receive standard technical data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) in server logs and aggregate analytics.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads to readers without a premium subscription. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, and learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Premium subscribers are not shown ads.
How we use information
- To operate the site: accounts, subscriptions, comments, bookmarks, newsletters.
- To process payments and prevent fraud (via Stripe).
- To understand readership and improve our journalism (aggregate analytics).
- To communicate with you about your account or subscription.
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers that run the site on our behalf: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), Google (advertising), and our hosting infrastructure. Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.
Your choices
- You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in any edition.
- You can cancel a premium subscription at any time from your account page.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us.
Children
Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the date above.
